We make the choices we do in order to support the goals we
So, let's look at some of our basic goals.
The first one is survival.
Without that, there is nothing else.
We want personal power.
We want personal freedom.
We want to be at peace with ourselves.
We want to be happy.
We want to be acknowledged.
We want respect.
We want to be accepted.
We want to be loved.
Notice that none of those things are material things.
None of them cost a cent and we can have them all.
We don't have to depend on anyone outside of ourselves to give us these things.
No one outside of ourselves needs to give us these things.
We can give these things to ourselves.
Before we go on, I want to get something clear here.
I have people tell me that it sounds like I am being selfish
In a sense, I am.
I believe that if we do not give to ourselves and take care of
I need to be stong in order to help someone who is weak at
So, yes, I do believe in what I call generous selfishness.
I want to be happy.
I like helping people when I can.
Being able to help people makes me happy.
Am I being generous because I help people or am I being selfish
I happen to like win-win situations.
I want all of the different things that I listed above.
I know that all of the things I do go in the direction of haveing
I also know that I can have all of those things without it having to
We can all have them.
We really just want to be happy.
If it that simple, what's the problem?
Why aren't we all just happy?
The main reason is that most of us don't know what would make
We know what makes us unhappy.
And we work hard on avoiding the things that make us unhappy.
What we end up doing is trying to be less unhappy rather than

I had no idea of what being happy was all about.
We do the same thing with a lot of areas of our lives.
If we were raised with a lack of material things in our lives, we tend
Most of us only look at issues about our health when we are not
We spend more time going FROM what we don't want than we do

Take a sheet of paper and list at least 10 things that you DON'T want

We are much more used to thinking about the things that we want
Remember, that is just something that we have done up to now.
We CAN turn that around.
We can start finding out what we do want in our lives.
Not only that, we can start getting what we want in our lives.
The next step is to get an idea what has been happening up to this point
